Hi, I’m Erin!
My goal is simple: To make math fun and help girls bloom into learners who believe in themselves.
Curious to know more? Pull up a seat and let me introduce myself. 👋🏼
I’ve always appreciated a good list, so here we go:
a list of eleven random facts about me to help us get to know each other!
11 Facts About Me…
2. I started my teaching career at a K-12 school in Bawlf, Alberta (it’s a real place, I swear). Since then, I’ve taught over 1000 students but I still have extremely fond memories of my two years there. Go Wildcats! 🐯
I’m a born and raised Calgarian who loves hockey and cheers for the Oilers (GASP! 🤭). I hope we can still be friends.
3. Since starting teaching in 2014 I’ve taught everything from Grade 3 PE to Grade 12 chemistry 🧪. That said, my specialty (and passion!) is math. For anyone interested, the laundry list of math courses I’ve taught includes: Grade 7 & 8 (GATE and regular) and Grade 10 to 12 (all levels!).
4. I love a good logic puzzle on a rainy day (or any day ending in 'y'). There’s something delightful to me about a good challenge. And that feeling when you finally crack the puzzle and everything ‘clicks'? Chef's kiss 👌🏼. I’m always finding ways to incorporate logical reasoning skills into my teaching.
5. I’m completely at home on my yoga mat 🧘🏻♀️ (yes, I’m absolutely THAT lady toting her yoga mat through the airport). I even took my 200-hour teacher training back in 2012. Although it’s been a hot minute since I’ve taught a yoga class, I incorporate elements of mindfulness into everything I do (including teaching math!).
6. I’m a total psychology nerd and an Enneagram 6w7 (if you know, you know 😉). One of the best ways to connect with others is by understanding their strengths, challenges, and motivations. That’s why I make it a priority to get to know all my students- so I can support their growth both in math and beyond.
7. Fictional characters I relate to? Annie Walker (Bridesmaids), Jim Halpert (The Office) and Ted Lasso. They’re all playful, down to earth and full of heart 💚. I try to bring those same qualities into my work with students.
8. When I was 17, I worked at a bank in Calgary processing GICs all day (yep, it was as boring as it sounds 🫠). The people were lovely but the time passed slower than molasses in January. That job made one thing crystal clear: it’s people, not paper, that light me up.
9. I’m a closet octogenarian at heart- I love to putz around barefoot in my garden. When I’m not wrangling my two kiddos or teaching math, the garden is my happy place (bonus points if you caught the connection to Numbers in Bloom 🌸😉). Being in nature 🌱 always reminds me to slow down and appreciate the little things.
